Episode 57: Gabriel Byrne

You probably know Gabriel Byrne as an accomplished actor from Ireland who’s appeared in more than 80 films. But before Byrne took to the stage he had a series of odd jobs like being a plumber and a petty thief. Byrne was 40 before he appeared in his first American film Miller’s Crossing. He plays a criminal in The Usual Suspects and a psychiatrist in the series In Treatment. He’s also written a lyrical memoir called Walking with Ghosts and he talks to me about the days when alcohol was his most trusted friend and what it’s like to feel like an immigrant.
