Ethiopia's Female Health Army
While China is relaxing its one-child policy, Ethiopia, one of the most heavily populated countries in Africa, is moving in the opposite direction. Carole Zimmer received a fellowship grant to visit Ethiopia, sponsored by the International Center for Journalists and the U.N Foundation. During her visit, she reported on how family planning is at the center of Ethiopia's efforts to promote economic advancement in one of the poorest nations in the world. This story received a New York Press Club Special Reporting Award as part of the series “Emerging Economies Race to Compete” exploring strategies for growth in the newly emerging democratic tilt of Myanmar and the role of family planning and health care policies in Ethiopia.
